A new series of the New Arab Debates launches this month on the topical issue of Syria. The motion is “The West has failed the Syrian people”.
With a growing humanitarian problem and no end to fighting in sight, what has the West been doing to help the Syrian people? Whose role is it to find a solution to the crisis and how much is the West doing?
Debate Chairman, Tim Sebastian, is expecting a lively debate: “The blame game is in full swing over Syria – but what else could have been done? The West has suffered from division and indecision but has spearheaded a huge humanitarian effort. What about the Arab states – have they done all they could to ease suffering and bring about peace? Just some of the questions that lie at the heart of our debate in Amman.”
