As you may have seen, the New Arab Debates are recording the first programmes in their new series on October 31 (in English) and November 1 (in Arabic). The speakers in English are as follows…
For the motion: Mohamed Salmawy, President of the Writers’ Union of Egypt and Secretary General of the General Union of Arab Writers.
Against the motion: Professor Khaled Fahmy, Chair of AUC’s Department of History.
This debate will be moderated by Tim Sebastian.

For the motion: Helmi El-Gazzar, Member of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Consultation Council, Secretary General of Giza Medical Syndicate, and the Administrative Manager of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Sixth of October office.
Against the motion: Nevine Mossad, Professor of Political Science at Cairo University, Vice-President of the Institute of Arab Studies and a writer at Al-Shorouk Newspaper.
This debate will be moderated by Mai El Sherbiny.
Both debates will discuss the motion: “This house believes that democracy has had a disappointing start in Egypt”.
